With Dad feeling well enough to be up and about again, and the weather promising to behave all day, it was the opportune time for a visit to Moeraki Boulders and Oamaru. We set off around 10 am for the nearly two-drive to the Boulders (surely would have been quicker had Nick been driving, but we left him in Timaru to finish his sermon preparations; I'm a more cautious distance driver!).
Moeraki was lovely as always, despite being overrun by tourists like us; I've never seen the beach buzzing with so many people as there were today.
We ate a hurried lunch around the boot of the car, having brought provisions from home for a slap-dash picnic, then headed to Oamaru for a browse around the Victorian Precinct and beautiful old buildings.
Dad and the boys were tolerably patient while Mom and I browsed an op shop, finding some purchase-worthy items (I came away with a $5 skirt in shiny silver fabric which is going to become something interesting once it's been through my sewing machine).
We bought ice-creams...
...popped in at an art gallery which is apparently not everyone's thing...
...saw a spinning wheel in progress which was of definite interest to those of us who saw it, leaving others outside wondering where we had gone...
...found interesting bits and pieces to photograph...
...saw Purple ride her moped...
...and waited for the steam train to puff back into the Harbourside Station.
All in all a good day, albeit a long and tiring one!
