School today was okay other than that the boys had to lay the foundation for a bedtime story. Caleb seems to have improved much in his writing and it is no longer a trial to get him to do a short composition, but Aaron tends to sit apparently waiting for his pencil to voluntarily extrude ideas onto his page, not at all like the way in which a coral extrudes its guts to digest a rival coral in the ocean (Nick and I have been watching Blue Planet, okay). But in the world of pencils and creative writing, while this might happen in the fertile imagination of someone like Caleb, in reality, and where it concerns Aaron, episodes like this simply do not occur. So he has to come up with his own plot and characters which is not presently his forte. I trust that over time this skill will develop, although hopefully more quickly than coral reefs are built up. Nick, Aaron and I took a brisk walk to the Longwood store for our bread while Caleb rode ahead on his bike – we were bundled up in scarves, hats and jackets (this on a sub-tropical island – yes, it really does get cold here). During the afternoon the boys played in and around trees, mostly with Joshua who is still on holiday.
