It’s been a singularly boring day. The weather was miserable most of the day; Nick and I tried to go for a walk after lunch while the boys happily rode bikes in the cloud but we couldn’t even get our cameras out our bags before it started raining. The boys, along with the other Piccolo kids, are not particularly bothered by the weather. When it rains hard enough they take cover in someone’s garage, otherwise they ride around on bikes, scooters, trikes, or just run around making plans and generally being happy. Nick’s arrangement with Tammy was cancelled, so he had the afternoon at home as well…we watched three episodes of House!! We very seldom watch DVDs in the daytime, except if we’re watching something with the boys, but since they were engaged outdoors we put it on. Dear Aaron knocked on the kitchen door every time he needed to come in for something as he knew we were watching – he said we could watch our House since they had watched a DVD already! How very magnanimous of him, I said. Nick did not want my suggested tuna-lasagne-in-a-box so I suggested that he cook instead. He found rice in the fridge and together we made fried rice with cheese grillers (and a tin of mixed veggies and two eggs thrown in). A most tasty and satisfying meal.
Don't let the bright blue skies confuse you...we're back to Ascension photos! Nick spent a day with St Helena's public solicitor. They went on a walk to explore an area called N E Bay. One of the highlights was a large blow-hole - seen below. At the end of the walk you come to a ledge where you are able to view Bosenberg Island. This little island is off-limits for visits except by prior permission as there are insects that are found there and nowhere else in the world. Even the introduction of an ant could upset the ecosystem! The island is white due to the guano found in large quantities there. There is even an old guano rail perched on the top that can be seen when viewing the island from above. Below is a baby Booby, a native bird to Ascension. Nick and Neil then went to the museum. Above is a photo of various communications devices that have been used during Ascension's history; below is a collection of some very old bottles.

I am very sorry to hear about the weather trapping you in however...the photo of wet road grabs at me. Its funny how something that is perhaps and annoyance while you are in it can instill fond memories a year later.
Enjoying the Ascension photos - really like the collection of bottles. Great composition - like seeing only the bottles!
