Tom came with us again to Good News Club where Nick taught on the Parable of the Sower. It was a very appropriate lesson for the kids. We just had a few things to do in town, then came home for lunch. I only had time to wash dishes before we were out to our second appointment, which was to meet with Paul and Claris whose wedding we are shooting next Saturday. We had a good chat with them and discussed a few things – didn’t stay long before coming home for a brief stop-over before the next appointment…the long-awaited Photowalk!
We got to Castle Gardens, our meeting point, just before 2.30 and there were already a few people waiting. Once everyone had arrived (all but one of the registered walkers who had phoned earlier to cancel, and a few others who hadn’t registered but arrived on the day anyway), we took a group photo, I welcomed everyone and explained what we were doing, and then we all went photographing. It was really great fun! We didn’t stick together as a group; rather each person wandered the route I had set at their own pace, so we would meet up occasionally or wander in twos and threes – each of us photographing what we found to be of interest. It was liberating to shoot town in this manner; one wouldn’t feel embarrassed to sit on the pavement taking pictures of exhaust pipes and taps! There weren’t many people about and not much traffic – ideal to just wander the streets. After our allocated two hours of walking we met up at Ann’s Place again for a cold drink, where we chatted about the walk, shared photos, and set a date for Friday night to have a slideshow of our photos – each person’s best 10. I have an idea that we may well do this again, in a different part of the island! Meanwhile, the boys had spent the afternoon with Tom and his family – Clare had asked if it would be okay if they took the boys out somewhere which was fine of course, so they had been to the Bottomwoods area where the boys ran around in craters and dirt and apparently had a great afternoon. We were home by 6, had supper, and then the boys went to bed exhausted.

Please encourage anyone who would be willing to donate photos to the museum collection. These sort of candid shots are missing in the museums collection and will add greatly to the visual historical record of the island!
I personally really like the building through the trees shot. I love images taken from a dark area looking into light perhaps because I like high contrast; perhaps because of the implied of idea of moving from darkness into light. I draw and paint that way.
